A Sportsman’s Paradise for hunting and fishing! 25 miles south of the Fort Peck Reservoir and CMR Wildlife Refuge. This area is renown for its wildlife including elk, mule and whitetail deer, bighorn sheep, antelope, turkeys, pheasants, sharp-tail grouse, sage grouse and Hungarian partridge.
Located in Central Montana, Cat Creek located east of Winnett was the site of Montana’s first commercially successful oil strike in 1920. A pipeline was built to the railroad at Winnett. By 1975 the oil boom had diminished. It has been estimated that about 23 million barrels of oil have been produced in Cat Creek’s 54-year history. Dryland farming and cattle ranching were main occupations of Cat Creek since its founding.
- The Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge is a National Wildlife Refuge located in the U.S. state of Montana. The refuge surrounds Fort Peck Reservoir and is 915,814 acres in size. It is the second-largest National Wildlife Refuge in the lower 48 states of the United States, and the largest in Montana.

- Fort Peck Lake is a major reservoir in Montana, formed by the Fort Peck Dam on the Missouri River. The lake lies in the eastern prairie region of Montana approximately 140 miles east of Great Falls and 120 miles north of Billings, reaching into portions of six counties.
- Musselshell Breaks Wilderness Study Area. The Musselshell Breaks WSA is an area of steep hills and deep coulees, cut deeply into soft shales and sandstone forming a precipitous landscape and drainages that open out to the Musselshell River. Erosional process have created attractive river breaks scenery. Vegetation includes groves of ponderosa pine and juniper, range grasses, native wildflowers, and brush. The steep hills and deep coulees provide habitat for wildlife, including deer and elk.
- Bridge Coulee Wilderness Study Area. Bridge Coulee contains three moderately deep drainages separated by narrow ridges. Small stands of ponderosa pine and juniper grow in the bottoms. Grasses, saltbush and native legumes cover the tops of the ridges. The setting is a limitless landscape of miles of rolling prairie and overlooking the Musselshell River. Fantastic panoramic vistas of the Little Snowy Mountains, Judith Mountains and Little Rocky Mountains create a sense of vastness.
